Hailing from the town of Nallasopara in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, Yadav Suryabhan first embarked on his UPSC journey in 2017. Despite his dedication, success eluded him on that occasion. Undeterred, he persisted and, in 2020, achieved a commendable AIR 488 in the UPSC CSE examination, earning him a place in the IRS.

Juggling Choices: IRS vs. IFoS

Interestingly, Suryabhan’s UPSC journey took a turn when he cracked the Indian Forest Service Examination (IFoS), securing an AIR of 57 in the same year. Now faced with two distinct paths, he deliberated between IRS and IFoS. Ultimately, he chose IRS while keeping his dream of becoming an IAS officer alive.

The Triumph of Perseverance

Though IRS was a significant achievement, Suryabhan’s heart remained set on the IAS. With unwavering dedication, he continued his preparation, fully aware of the challenges that lay ahead. After diligent study and hard work, the breakthrough came in the form of UPSC CSE 2022, where he secured an impressive AIR 27, finally achieving his goal of becoming an IAS officer.

Academic Background and Early Preparations

Before his UPSC journey, Yadav Suryabhan pursued a degree in mechanical engineering from the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi. It was during his time at IIT-BHU that he developed an interest in pursuing a career in the civil services. To gain insights into the UPSC exam’s intricacies, he also sought brief coaching, proving instrumental in shaping his preparation strategy.
