Turia was born in Tahiti and moved to Australia with her family when she was three years old. Turiya, who grew up in the coastal town of Ulladulla, New South Wales, met her now-fiancée at her school. Before the fateful event of 2011, Turia moved to Rio where she landed her dream job at Tinto and she started a new life with Michael. But in September 2011, their world changed.
Turiya was caught in a grass fire during the Kimberley Ultramarathon, burning 65% of his body, missing fingers on his right hand and was hospitalised for five months. Michael, a former police officer, quits his job to care for Turia, who has overcome difficulties. Speaking on Laura Byrne and Brittany Hockley’s “Life Uncut” podcast in May 2022, Turia said she felt really guilty and poked Michael after the fire because “it also wrecked Michael’s life.” I admit I tried to let go.
“But Michael is the calmest, calmest, most humble man. He was there every day, showing up at 7:30 in the morning and sometimes asking me, “What are you doing here?” go away! I don’t want you here! Because I felt so guilty and thought it would be easier without someone to love me.
Turia grew into a great figure by Michael’s side after a horrific accident. Speaking to The Telegraph in 2012, Michael revealed what he liked about her.
“She doesn’t want people to feel sorry for her. She just wants to live her own life,” he explained. “She’s beautiful, you know, she’s great.”
“She has crazy energy. She loves nature, she loves the ocean, and so do I, we were always working together,” he added. The two got engaged in 2015, but Michael previously told Us Weekly that he bought the diamond ring while she was in intensive care.
“I’m so happy to have this wonderful man in my life! You bring out the best in me and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him,” Turia wrote on Facebook at the time. Then, in June 2017, the couple announced the happy news that Turia was pregnant, and we received some exciting updates.
At the time, Turia wanted to teach her son “resilience” and she already knew Michael would be a better father, she said. Soon after that, the first child, Hakavai, was born, and in 2020, they became parents again, and in February of the same year, they gave birth to Rahiti.
