Sudha Murthy was born on 19th August 1950 in Saiggaon, Karnataka into the family of Deshasta Madhva Brahmin. Her Sudha’s father, R. H. Kulkarni was a doctor and his mother Vimala Kulkarni was a teacher. Sudha’s parents were very supportive of her upbringing. They encouraged her to study engineering and become financially independent.
Sudha studied at the BV College of Engineering and Technology. She is Bumaradi from Hubli, Karnataka. She got a bachelor’s degree in engineering. She graduated from the KLE Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. In 1975 she graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.
