She founded a non-profit NGO that works to improve the education system in remote villages in Ladakh. Education is the hope for a better and brighter future. She returned to India in 2002. She has always been passionate about parenting. She started her journey by teaching at Gurugram school. While teaching at her Gurugram school, she often wondered if his presence meant anything. After all, students had all the necessary resources there.
Life changing Ladakh trip
Sujata Sahu loves hiking. She embarked on one of her fateful operations in Ladakh. During her travels, she interacted with many people. She attended various schools and observed their dire conditions. There was a school where she had only one teacher and her seven children. The other has two teachers and five children. What inspired her most was her children’s desire to learn. Teachers are also enthusiastic. In such a difficult situation and with no facilities, the children went to this small school every day to study. Realising that these children needed help, she came up with the idea to build a 17,000-foot-tall foundation. This foundation is called her 17,000 ft. This is because it is the highest height the Foundation has travelled on foot to reach its beneficiaries.
Launch organisation 17,000 ft
She wanted to help educate these children. She returned to Delhi and started her studies. Before launching an NGO, Sujata wanted to understand how NGOs work. After a year and a half of intensive research, she finally set about laying the 17,000-foot foundation.
Problems faced by organisations
My first task was to find all the public schools in the area. The lack of access to GPS made the task even more difficult. Volunteers and Sujata had to travel many kilometres to find all the schools. The main problem was to provide training for teachers and adequate resources for children. The idea was to make education in public and private schools more efficient. The 17,000-foot-tall foundation overcomes all difficulties.
Organisational Impact
17,000 ft of tissue has impacted the lives of nearly 38,000 children. They have trained more than 1000 of his teachers. The organisation recently proposed the DigiLabs concept. As part of this system, the association provides electronic devices and tablets that harm solar energy. The foundation recently expanded into Sikkim and replicated its programs in schools far from Sikkim. The 17,000 Ft Foundation does a great job of providing quality education to the remotest parts of the country. The 17,000-foot-tall foundation will have a significant positive impact on the lives of young people.
Awards won by Sujata and plans for the future
In 2015, Sujata Sahu received the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskar Award from the Honorary President of India. In 2019, Sujata Sahu received the NITI Aayog Women Transforming India Award. The 17,000 Ft Foundation is looking to expand the program to other remote areas facing similar challenges.
