The Cinderella Story: From Slums to Supermodel
A couple of months ago, I was scrolling reels on Instagram. A captivating reel of a girl popped up on my phone’s screen. She was Maleesha Kharwa. Her story cheered my heart to write a blog about her. Maleesha is a 14-year-old influencer and content creator, who is inspiring many. This girl who hails from Dharavi, a well-known slum in Mumbai, is now a beauty model and recently became a face of a luxury skincare brand – Forest Essentials.
In 2020, actor Robert Hoffman was on a visit to India. To jump between the lines of local life in Bombay, he took a tour to Dharavi. Every kid there had unique qualities. But Maleesha’s face had a remarkable glow. He was startled by her beauty’s simplicity. Maleesha was 12 then. Robert’s tour to Dharavi changed this girl’s life overnight when he saw a model within her.
Robert met her family and asked them if she could open the doors for the slum princess with her tremendous potential to change her life. Since then, consequently, she has been featured on several magazine covers etc. Moreover, with her increasing popularity, she signed two Hollywood films and was featured in the short film “Live Your Fairytale”.
Maleesha’s inspiring story serves as a reminder that greatness knows no boundaries and that one’s background does not define their potential. She has indeed become a symbol of hope, proving that with passion, perseverance, and a belief in oneself, anyone can rise above adversity and make a lasting impact on the world.
