Have you ever wondered if a girl who worked as a door-to-door saleswoman selling phenyl, soaps, detergent, sanitary pads, etc at the age of 16, can become a founder of a well-known jewellery brand? Here I present the inspiring journey of a remarkable individual who emerged as a visionary founder.

Chinu Kala and Amit Kala are the founders of Rubans.

All about Chinu Kala

From humble beginnings, she defied the odds and embarked on a remarkable personal and professional growth journey. Chinu was 15 when his dad and stepmother asked her to leave the house. With 300 INR in her purse, she caught a train and left her home. Over the following 48 hours, she found herself seeking refuge at Mumbai railway station, her temporary abode. she survived on modest vada pav meals, driven by the pressing need to sustain herself. As the days wore on, the challenges grew more, pushing her towards the urgency of securing employment to weather the storm.

She then started working as a saleswoman and earned INR 50 per day. She also worked as a waitress for a local restaurant in Mumbai.

Chinu then moved to Surat where she worked as a customer care executive. There she met Amit and soon after they got married. After many struggles, her life took a different turn when she completed a makeup artist course and ran her salon.

Chinu once came to know about the Gladrags Mrs India pageant in 2007. She decided to participate in it and even was one of the top finalists. Life brought more opportunities to her. She started getting modelling offers.

Chinu and Rubans

During her Mrs India pageant days, Chinu realized that the right kind of jewellery can light up an outfit. This idea encouraged her to start her jewellery brand. In 2014, Chinu and Amit launched their jewellery brand ‘RUBANS’. Today, Rubans has outlets in many metro cities in India, plus they also sell their products on Myntra.

Rubans also made an entry on Shark Tank India, where they made a deal with Vinita Singh, Aman Gupta and Namrata Thapar.

Despite facing numerous setbacks and challenges, she never gave up on her dreams and continued to chase her goals relentlessly. Her story serves as a reminder that with the right mindset, anything is possible.
