Indian hopefuls have always been motivated by the success stories of UPSC Civil Services Examination applicants. Varun Baranwal, an IAS officer who defied the obstacles to success, is one such success story.
In the tiny village of Boisar in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, his father worked as a bicycle mechanic. After his father passed away in 2006, Baranwal, a prospective doctor, was forced to take over the business.

What occurred when Baranwal’s father passed away?
After Baranwal’s Class 10 exams, his father passed away. Baranwal opted to start a bicycle repair shop as their only source of income in order to support the family.
When Baranwal did well in his Class 10 examinations, his mother saw his love of learning and will to succeed.
She assumed control of her husband’s business while pleading with Baranwal to finish his studies.

After graduating from high school, Baranwal allegedly made the decision to register in medical school in order to follow his interest.
But because studying medicine was so expensive, he decided to pursue engineering instead.
Baranwal was accepted into MIT College in Pune and put forth a lot of effort during his first semester to be awarded a scholarship.
His engineering studies were completed thanks to a scholarship.
The main source of support for Baranwal
When Baranwal encountered difficulties, Dr. Kampli—a friend of his late father who had previously treated him—came into the picture. Dr. Kampli completely transformed Baranwal’s life by helping him not only pay for college but also prepare for the UPSC CSE.
By providing him with literature and offering him support in trying moments, Baranwal’s friends also assisted him.
Baranwal left her MNC position to serve her country.
After receiving his engineering degree, Baranwal was hired by a multinational firm (MNC).
His family encouraged him to continue working for the MNC, but he decided to enter the government service instead.
He apparently received support from NGOs, who gave him literature to use in his test preparation.
Baranwal received everyone’s support, passed the 2013 CSE, and was appointed an IAS officer.
Varun Baranwal, who saw his life of poverty as a lesson, received an overall ranking of 32 in the 2013 UPSC CSE, and was chosen to join the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). He draws inspiration from a variety of places and thinks that the whole experience he has had has improved him as a public worker.
